In the US, the Federal Aviation Administration says that passenger airline pilots will work shorter hours and have longer rest periods. This is the first change to the regulations for pilots since 1985, and comes in the wake of a deadly 2009 crash that claimed 50 lives. However, these new rules will not extend to cargo carriers, who lobbied against them.
