Brazilian soldiers and cops descended on the slums of Rio De Janeiro to try and clean out the city’s notorious drug gangs. Marines, helicopters, and armored vehicles joined about 800 police officers in the operation in a neighborhood that’s plagued by crime. Authorities are desperate to clean up the city ahead of the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.
