US President Barack Obama says he’s sending Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to the reclusive country of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. It’ll be the first visit by a Secretary of State in 50 years. Obama made the decision after speaking with Myanmar’s pro-democracy figurehead Aung San Suu Kyi. It’s a positive sign that the country is potentially moving forward toward democracy.

All she is saying is give democracy a chance. Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi says she’s hoping for a peaceful revolution in Myanmar. This a few days after her long-anticipated release from house arrest, where she’s spent 15 of the past 21 years! It also comes a few days after Myanmar’s hotly-contested election, which saw a military-backed party win in a landslide vote that many believe was rigged.

Suu Kyi to be set free. Reports out of Myanmar suggest that long-imprisoned pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi will soon be freed! Military authorities have reportedly signed an order for her release. As leader of the National League for Democracy, Suu Kyi has spent 15 of the past 21 years in government custody. Thousands of supporters gathered outside NLD headquarters in anticipation of her release.
