British Petroleum has just released its quarterly numbers, and despite last year’s oil disaster the company is back in the black, BIG TIME! BP made $5.3 billion in profit over the last three months, ending June 30th. But due to higher oil prices and lower production, that figure was actually LOWER than expected.

BP could face more harsh consequences for last year’s disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. US Federal investigators are now considering charging a number of BP managers with manslaughter for the casualties that occurred aboard the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig. BP stock took a 2% hit on Tuesday after federal authorities released the report of their intentions.

The US Justice Department has become the latest entity to sue British Petroleum over the Gulf oil spill. They’re accusing BP and other companies of ignoring safety regulations when drilling the well that caused the Deepwater Horizon oilrig explosion. The federal suit names BP, rig owner Transocean, and other companies involved in the disaster.
