Brazil’s rainforest could face new threats now that the country’s moved ahead with plans to amend deforestation laws. Lawmakers are seeking to reduce the amount of land that farmers are required to preserve as forest. Brazilian President Dilma Roussef supports some change, but has indicated she would veto any bill that contained amnesties for farmers who have cleared land illegally in the past.
