In Syria, 200 members of the ruling Baath party have resigned. The mass exodus is reportedly over the government’s violent crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators. In the city of Deraa, tanks and troops have been deployed in order to take control. The government insists that the protests have been violent, a view the West disagrees with.
