Canada has become the first country to withdraw from the Kyoto protocol – the world’s only binding climate treaty. Although they’ve made the announcement to formally withdraw, it wasn’t a huge surprise. Despite the fact that Canada signed the pact in the late nineties, they have never met targets. The ruling Conservative government says that meeting the Kyoto commitments would wreak havoc on the Canadian economy.
