World food prices hit record highs. More hunger and famine could be on the horizon as World food prices have jumped to record highs. The United Nations is reporting that an index of 55 key food commodities tracked by the Food and Agriculture Organization reached an all time high of 214 point 7 last month. That number edged out the former record of 213-point-5 set in June of 2008.
