The Tokyo Electric Power Company, more commonly known as Tepco, could face more in compensation claims than BP thanks to all the complications at the Fukushima Daichi nuclear plant. Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency raised the severity of the crisis at the plant to 7 on Tuesday. The company has estimated they may have to pay those affected as much as 23-point-6 BILLION dollars.

Japan continues to be rocked by disasters. Another earthquake, measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale, struck just 30 miles away from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility. Workers were briefly evacuated from the plant. Thankfully the quake didn’t trigger another tsunami. However it did trigger landslides, burying three houses and trapping residents inside.

Japan has announced plans to scrap 4 reactors at the Fukushima nuclear plant. Tokyo Electric Power – Tepco – also said that they’ve been unable to bring reactors 1 through 4 under control, although they claim they’re stabilizing. Readings near Reactor 1 shows radioactive iodine levels in the sea that are over 3,300 times the legal limit.
