The Japanese government has made it ILLEGAL to enter the 12-mile evacuation zone around the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility. Residents were urged to leave following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. However, the evacuation hasn’t been legally enforced until now. Entering the area could result in fines of up to $1,200, or 30 days of detention.

Plutonium has been detected in the soil at the plant, and water described as “highly radioactive” has been leaking from one of the reactors into the sea.
