The head of Afghanistan’s central bank has fled the country. Abdul Qadeer Fitrat claims he’s fearing for his life since the Afghan government interfered with his investigation of corruption at the bank. Hundreds of millions of dollars went missing from Kabul Bank last year almost leading to its collapse. A spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai has indicated that Fitrat was also under investigation himself.
