In Brazil, lawmakers are proposing a nationwide referendum on whether to ban the sale of guns. The idea was prompted after a 3-day national period of mourning, stemmed by a horrific school shooting in Rio de Janeiro. A similar referendum was held in 2005, but was rejected by 64 percent of voters.
